RSS Digest
RSS Digest is a plugin that creates daily digests from an RSS or Atom feed that you specify.

description
RSS Digest fetches items from the RSS or Atom feed that you specify and posts them to your blog in a daily digest.
A common use is to create a daily digest of items you’ve posted to social networking sites such as Delicious, Twitter, Facebook, etc.
Unlike the other couple of WordPress plugins providing similar functionality, RSS Digest features a settings page for easy configuration. (No editing code… Yay!)
Feature summary:
- Supports RSS and Atom feeds
- Easy to use configuration settings page
- Daily or weekly digest at the time of your choice
- Configurable digest title, category and author
- Publishes the description field, allowing you to annotate your imported links
- Digests may be published automatically, or posted as drafts or pending
- Based on the latest WordPress feed fetching technology for enhanced performance and scalability
installation
Upload the RSS Digest plugin to your blog, Activate it, then Configure it (Settings > RSS Digest) to set your feed information and digest preferences. Easy peasy.
frequently asked questions
What feed types does RSS Digest support?
RSS Digest supports all major versions of RSS and Atom, namely
- RSS 0.90
- RSS 0.91 (Netscape)
- RSS 0.91 (Userland)
- RSS 0.92
- RSS 1.0
- RSS 2.0
- Atom 0.3
- Atom 1.0
Can I use RSS Digest with WordPress 2.7 or earlier?
RSS Digest uses the ‘fetch_feed’ library, which is new to WordPress 2.8. As a result, RSS Digest currently only works with WordPress 2.8 or later.
Can I remove the text “This digest powered by RSS Digest” from the bottom of each post?
Yes, but we hope you won’t
Whether the attribution text appears is controlled by the “Give credit to RSS Digest” setting on the configuration page.
Perhaps you’d consider leaving it on for a limited time before removing just to help us get the word out?
I’d like to see feature XYZ. Can that be added?
Possibly. Leave a comment on the plugin’s homepage with your feature request and we’ll see what we can do.

Hello,
I put the pluggin into my site, however, is it possible to have multiple feeds. I only noticed one spot in the settings page to input an rss feed, however, I wanted to get feeds from a few different sites/feeds. Is this possible?
thanks
Hey hey,
How do I go about enabiling multiple feeds?
I’m loving this plugin and have been looking for something like this for a while….
Nice work!
Justin
Hi Sam,
I really like your plugin. I am having a slight problem with it though. It set it up to post once a week an RSS digest. It creates two posts instead of one. Any ideas why this happens and how to solve this issue?
Best,
Jana
Jana,
Please go into the Debug tab, turn on detailed logging (if it isn’t already), and post or send a few posts worth of log data.
Sam
So I just downloaded and installed the plugin. Dumb question – how do I get the RSS feed to appear on my site? I don’t see any instructions / shortcode or anything. Any help would be huge. Thx!
Reggie,
RSS Digest simply posts a digest of entries from the RSS feed you specify. There is no shortcode at this time, it simply posts the latest digest to your posts collection. The post should appear wherever you are displaying the latest posts.
Sam
I’d like to throw in my vote for adding the ability to use it with multiple feeds at once. I have sites where I would love to post a digest (or hey, even two, LOL) per DAY to supplement my own posts and keep readers updated on my stores. THAT would be cool! Thanks,
Sylvia
Hi, I’ve installed the latest version to digest a daily delicious bookmarks feed, but apparently I only get one item/bokmark instead of the number I saved (usually 3-5). I have set the minimum items to 1 and the maximum to 10. What am I missing?
The first thing to do is to open the feed URL in a browser and make sure you see the number of items you expect to see. Next, turn on debug logging and trigger an update and see what the log tells you.
Thanks, it still doesn’t show all my bookmarks, but I’ve set the plugin to post to preview now, so I can manually add the missing stuff. Might be an issue with Delicious.com. I’m looking for an alternative.
Hiya Sam,
Great work on this plugin – I am evaluating it as a replacement for Twitter Digest/Twitter Tools. Based on what I have read about its implementation, I expect your plugin to be far more robust and reliable.
May I ask for two simple enhancements:
1. Can you replace all instances where is used with the function call wp_enqueue_style().
That way minifying plugins like Better WordPress Minify will be able to minify rss-digest.css, helping to reduce page load time.
2. I am using this plugin to pull in posts from Twitter. Can you please add an option to not make the title a hyperlink, as it already contains the entire text and there is no need to click on the link.
Thanks.
Great plugin, to bad it does not support multiple feeds. I would buy the pro version, but it is far to expensive! You can’t seriously think that someone would pay $59 for a simple plugin…maybe for a professional theme or toolbox.
Hey, I had hacked an earlier version to have an option of choosing day of the month instead of just just days of week. It would be great to have this code incorporated in your release so that I don’t have to keep patching up every time.
I can send you the code if you are open to the idea
hi, great plugin, that i have been using for a while. it does exactly what i need, dumping my daily decicious bookmarks in the blog.
now i thought about a new feature that would come in handy: is it possible to add an option to include the tags from each delicious bookmark that goes into the post, as wordpress tags?
also, it would be really cool if the plugin included a small, configurable screenshot for every bookmarked link in a post.
cheers!
I have the similar problem with Yudhi Arie baskoro,
If I use manual “post now” its work fine to pull data from ebay, how ever when set on auto, still work for the text base, but can’t grab image from the rss.
I am not too sure how he managed to solve the problem by using yahoo pipe, can you please help.
I love this plugin too!
James
If you send a URL over and the plugin debug info I’ll take a look.
Hi there,
any way to add target=”_blank” to every Link in the RSS ?
thank u
You can try doing this in JavaScript/jQuery.
Any thought’s on this plug-in supporting multiple feeds in the future?
Not sure how to paste code here so I’ll just describe what I keep fixing in this otherwise nice plugin. It bothers me that I’m unable to provide credit to the original source of the item in the digest. Some time ago you added the option of including item description but not the source (or the date published). So I added the following lines (edited so it won’t break the comment but you should be able to figure it out)
after line 159 (function scrd_theme_digest_item)
source = item->get_source
….(get link, title, description)
from: source->get_title() on item->get_date(‘F j Y’)
Any chance the option could be included in the next release?
Can this be placed on a regular page instead of a blog post page?
Hi,
This can’t be done with the current version but it’s a great idea and I’m planning to start working on it soon.
Sam
I’m not sure whats wrong with mine.
If I use manual “post now” its work fine to pull data from ebay, how ever when set on auto. still work for the text base, but can’t grab image from the rss
can you help me about this. i love this plugin
Please post the URL to your site and the feed URL.
Found the problem, feed just to big, I have to use yahoo pipes to truncate feed on 40-50, thanks for the support.
future request perhaps.
- post schedule on hour base
- multiple feed source
great job Sam
I love this plugin, it’s fantastic. I have what is probably a simple question. I want to add text at the start of every digest post, such as an introduction sentence. Where in the plugin file can I add this without messing anything up?
Thanks in advance for your help!
Hi Hillary,
If you download the latest version you will find this feature.
Sam
Hi,
Thx for the great plugin.
I have installed version 1,5 but can´t find this feature.
it would be really nice when you can mange more than one feed.
Thanks in advance
Shame on me found it sry
It tells me that my RSS URL is invalid but it is not:
feed://www.ravelry.com/projects/natalieford.rss?status=finished
Works both in my browser and on LiveJournal.
Natalie,
Try replacing the “feed://” with “http://”.
Sam
